Good morning, Gilbert.
Sunny and 112 today, with an Extreme Heat Warning in effect through Sunday evening. Anything outdoors this weekend is an early-morning or after-sundown plan.
- 🍺 The Whining Pig closed on Val Vista. The Buzzed Goat is taking a former Which Wich on Market Street.
- 🪩 She's Country Ladies Night is tonight. Line dancing starts at 6 PM.
- 🪴 Lena's Plant Market runs Saturday. Buy, sell, and trade indoor plants. Free to attend.
- 🎸 Sedona Red plays O.H.S.O. Gilbert Saturday. Dog-friendly patio in the Heritage District.
- 🏫 Highland has athletics parent night Monday. 6 PM, first week of school in the books.
- 🎭 Three Valley picks. Jo Koy in Chandler, Grupo Frontera and Dear Evan Hansen in Phoenix.
One tap house out, one coffee bar in
Two locally owned tap houses changed status this week, both within a few minutes of Williams Field Road.
Key facts:
- The Whining Pig has closed its Gilbert location near the southwest corner of Val Vista Drive and Williams Field Road. It had been open close to 10 years.
- The spot was known for rotating craft beer, wine, grilled cheese sandwiches, and games. No replacement tenant has been named. (Details.)
- The Buzzed Goat is planning a third location in the South SanTan Village area, taking over the former Which Wich sandwich shop on Market Street.
- The locally owned coffee bar and tap house serves handcrafted coffee, cold brew, and drinks. No opening date has been announced. (Details.)
Both businesses sit in the gap Gilbert's two commercial centers leave open: not the Heritage District's historic storefronts, not SanTan Village's national chains, but the strip-center suites in between where most of the town actually runs its errands. A Which Wich turning into a coffee-and-beer bar is the kind of swap that only reads as news if you drive past it twice a day.
What to watch: whether a tenant surfaces for the Val Vista space, and when the Buzzed Goat sets an opening date on Market Street.
